This is my last day here in NY, and I'm actaully having fun.
Now, the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly from the NYC. :P
The GOOD:
- Wireless access everywhere. I'm staying a one of the really budget hotel even THAT provide free wireless in the lobby. Compare that to NZ...anyway.
- Subway gets me everywhere.
- The shopping! (Engineers may want to skip this point and read the next) If I'm richer I might spend a lot more money, but honestly, I got myself a very nice pair of Diesel jeans for US$30... so I'm happy. :D
- The conference actually went very well and I found out at least I'm on track... even if it's the wrong track :P One Canadian prof told me their team did almost the same thing because they read the same few papers I read. And then realise that they too can't really replicate their results and decided to for for wavelets instead and got really good results. Now I just have to convince my supervisor... (wish me luck huh...)
- There was a Nintendo World here, and I got myself Trauma Centre. One of the most frustratingly cool game. I too now can become a surgent.
- Hotel is just a hop from the subway, right in Times Square which means it's very safe since there's people everywhere all the time.
- All the blinking lights in time square makes me dizzy :P It strangely reminds me of HK.
The BAD:
- I couldn't sleep for the first day or so thatnks to jetlag and time differences. At the end I had to get sleeping aid to help me sleep
- I got called a "corn" (yellow on the outside, white on the inside) in Chinatown right in my face coz the people in the shop didn't realise I understand Chinese. o_O
- Everything's so expensive here it's not funny. o_O
The UGLY:
- I never believed it's THIS polluted, but it is. There's this strange smell from the streets wherever you are. Strange smoke/steam substance come out of the drains on the street and I really don'y want to know what it is. Come to think of it, I wonder if it's the pollution that reminds me from HK.
Anyway, for the whole trip I do miss Pete a lot. And I've been listening to Bic Runga a lot.. it strangely fits (especially whenI couldn't sleep, listening to get some sleep was cool. maybe she was jetlagged as well when she wrote that)
Take care folks. will write more in St Louis. :)
